Established in 2010, the Choral Festival for Peace in the World aims to promote music as a channel for peace in the world. Gérald Wirth, Artistic Director of the Vienna Youth Choir, is in charge of the artistic part of the Festival, dedicated to the choirs of children and young people.
Under the motto “Singing together, singing for a better future”, the purpose of the Choral Festival for Peace is to provide a venue for young people and children from all countries, allowing them to perform, communicate and create an intercultural understanding. The idea of this Festival is to generate intercultural dialogue and exchanges between nations, since music is a universal language that has the power to overcome cultural differences and unite peoples. The highlights of the Festival are the opening ceremony in St. Stephen’s Cathedral, performances of the choirs at the UN headquarters and the gala concert in the famous Vienna Concert Hall (Konzerthaus). The repertoire of the choirs can be anything from classical to folk music, passing by the religious and contemporary music. The choirs choose between two categories: the Contest section and the Festival section. For the Festival alone, the choirs will take part in courses led by renowned music teachers, choir conductors and experts. For the Competition, the registered choirs will be judged by a jury made up of internationally renowned music experts. The joint events are accessible to all choirs with concerts and performances in the most beautiful churches, concert halls and cultural institutions of Vienna incorporating a group meeting over a meal in a Viennese restaurant.
We hope that the spirit of Peace promoted by this event will inspire you and your choir helping you to fully enjoy your stay in Vienna.
